About Veldhoen + Company

EXPERIENCED WORKPLACE STRATEGY CONSULTANTS

The team at V+C has been driving innovation in ways of working for more than three decades.

Our Story

Our Story

Veldhoen + Company was founded in the Netherlands in 1989. Our founders believed that more flexible and sustainable workplaces were the future, and developed new ways of working for dozens of organisations. One of those organisations was Interpolis, the offices of which would become the landmark example of Activity Based Working (ABW) in action.

We are pioneers of this human-centred approach to workplace strategy and design as the longest continuously operating consultancy in the world in New Ways of Working strategy. With 300+ projects, over three decades, and hundreds of publications already in our rearview mirror, V+C is now a worldwide team with offices in Eindhoven, Düsseldorf, London, New York, Stockholm, Sydney, Singapore, and Tokyo, as well as consultants all over the globe.

At V+C, we’re passionate about challenging each other and our clients. Our 50+ team members are an extended global family who are proud of our history and eager to contribute to a better world of work for others. By being open and curious, we are making a difference together with our clients.

Our History

1989

Veldhoen + Company founded in Limburg, Netherlands by Erik Veldhoen.

Early 1990s

V+C focuses on workplace concept design. The integral model (combining working processes, information technology, and physical space) is created.

1995

In his book The Demise of the Office, Erik Veldhoen introduces the concept of “The New Work” challenging the management theories that governed organisational culture and design in the past.

1996

Project highlight: Interpolis (Tilburg, Netherlands): This project sees the introduction of wireless communication to support unassigned workspaces and a cultural shift toward trusting employees to work any time, anywhere.

Late 1990s

Interest in new ways of working grows. V+C expands its work in the Netherlands across a variety of sectors.

2001

Project highlight: B.Braun (Melsungen, Germany): The CEO of B.Braun ordered their team to seek out the best state-of-the-art office example. The answer: Interpolis. This leads to the first ABW project in Germany.

2005

The Art of Working by Erik Veldhoen is published. Drawing from both theory and practice, Veldhoen provides real world examples of our organisational-social work and how it contributes to a more sustainable and harmonious society.

Late 2000s

ABW concepts are applied to more sectors, including government (Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) and healthcare (Hospital of the Future, Sittard, Netherlands). V+C shifts its approach toward data-driven workplace strategy, focusing our projects on aligning workplace design, IT, and organisational development strategy.

2009

The international growth of ABW and interest in new ways of working accelerates. V+C opens our first APAC office in Sydney, Australia.

Project highlight: Macquarie Bank (Sydney, Australia): The first ABW project in Australia introduces a culture of trust by empowering people to choose a variety of settings to work from.

Early 2010s

Global growth continues with the first ABW projects in New Zealand (ASB Bank), Sweden (Tetra Pak and Volvo Cars) and the UK (Lego Hub and Sainsbury Store Support Centre).

2015

V+C undertakes its first ABW projects in Asia (Lego Singapore and Lego Shanghai).

2016

Project highlight: Tele2 (Stockholm, Sweden): This telecom organisation embodies a new way of working supported by an Activity Based workspace, transforming organisational culture through a leadership that supports connections and choice.

Late 2010s

V+C shifts focus toward change management and the need for a people-centric, holistic approach. We refine our experimental, iterative, and reflective processes to help clients achieve long-term success. Global expansion continues with V+C offices opening in New York City and Singapore.

2019

Project highlight: Banco Crédito del Peru: the first ABW project in South America introduces a new way of working to 1000+ employees.

2020

Project highlight: Novartis U.S. (New Jersey, USA): V+C’s first major ABW project in the U.S. also marks the first application of ABW to an entire corporate campus.

Early 2020s

V+C continues to grow with offices opening in Düsseldorf, Tokyo, and London.
