Often organisations approach Veldhoen + Company and want to rethink the look and feel of their office space. This almost always leads to a larger conversation around the potential to work in an entirely different way and what that would mean. 


 

5 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE MAKING A CHANGE

Our physical environment can be a huge impetus for change. It’s a visible manifestation of how an organisation wants to present itself to its customers and employees. It doesn’t stop at the physical. We need to consider how the people drive this manifestation in how they work, and encourage the right behaviours in using the space.

Before embarking on a path to change, our experience is that a very courageous conversation needs to happen. To help understand the desire for change, we often rely on these five questions:

  1. What is the sense of urgency driving this change? 
  2. What happens if we don’t change?
  3. How comfortable am I in both asking myself and others the tough questions and not having all the answers? 
  4. Am I, and the leaders in my organisation, ready to change things about myself and unlearn certain behaviours that might have once served me well?
  5. How resilient am I prepared to be when the journey feels too hard?
The answer to these questions will piece together the the story and represents the first step in inspiring change.

 

Change is a courageous endeavour and is not for the faint hearted. It can also be a lonely path. Nonetheless there are great leaders who hold their vision above all else, and are able to persevere and achieve great things because, at the end of the day, they believe it matters.
